Y Combinator provides seed funding for startups. Seed funding is the earliest stage of venture funding. It pays your expenses while you’re getting started. Some companies may need no more than seed funding. Others will go through several rounds. There is no right answer; how much funding you need depends on the kind of company you start.

At Y Combinator, our goal is to get you through the first phase. This usually means: get you to the point where you’ve built something impressive enough to raise money on a larger scale. Then we can introduce you to later stage investors—or occasionally even acquirers.

Founded by Steve Jang, a serial entrepreneur and angel investor based in San Francisco, California. Steve served as an early advisor and investor at Uber and was an early investor in Coinbase, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Virgin Hyperloop One. Steve is a co-founder at Out There Labs, a decentralized app studio, and previously was the founder of SoundTracking (acquired by Rhapsody) and co-creator of imeem (acquired by MySpace).

As a product-focused entrepreneur, Steve has served as a founder, executive, and board member at several technology startups from inception to acquisition. Most recently, he was an investor and board director at WillCall (acquired by Ticketfly/Pandora), and a co-founder and creator of SoundTracking, a social music recognition & discovery app, that was recognized by Apple as the Best iPhone Music App in the US in 2011 (acquired by Rhapsody International). Before that, he was the co-creator of imeem, the world's first on-demand ad-supported music streaming service which reached over 100 million monthly users before its acquisition by MySpace.

As an early-stage startup advisor, Steve has served as an early Advisor to Uber, the leading ride-sharing and transportation network, since its founding in 2009, and Advisor to Expa, a startup studio and incubator based in San Francisco and New York, since its inception in 2013.

Today, Steve invests in early stage startups in software, hardware, and retail/consumer brand sectors, from the Kindred Ventures fund.

Our venture team sources early stage investment opportunities through direct relationships, referrals from our investor members and founders, as well as connections to top startup incubators including Y Combinator, top seed stage VC firms such as First Round Capital, and top superangels. We first invest at the Seed and Series A stage, and seek to follow on in later rounds.

Craft Ventures is a venture capital firm based in San Francisco, focusing on technology and cryptocurrency. It was established in 2017 by David O. Sacks and Bill Lee. Its first investment was leading a series A round for Bird, a scooter sharing company, in February of 2018.
