Recognizing a lack of conferences focusing exclusively on the growing quantitative hedge fund community, hedge fund visionary Bartt C. Kellermann’s Global Capital Acquisition created Battle of the Quants in 2006. Together with Academia, Asset Allocators and Quantitative focused hedge funds, the conference combines the various quant disciplines in one location to explore and discuss the critical issues confronting the quantitative approach to finance. One of the most innovative components and biggest draws of the event is the stimulating discussion between the systematic approach vs. the discretionary approach to investing, also referred to as the Main Battle. Other panels have included the Investor Panel (very popular with managers seeking how to increase AUM, the How to Extract Alpha Panel and new for this year is the Current Financial Market Review which explores the quantitative field’s impact on the current financial crisis). After careful planning, the first conference was launched in New York City in 2007 to great acclaim. The event was taken overseas to both Asia and London and has now become an annual international event always filling venues to capacity. Battle of the Quants brings together an outstanding faculty of advanced thinkers in the quantitative space. No other forum provides this level of content innovation, critical thinking and networking opportunities that continue to build each year. The event has evolved and continues to attract high profile speakers from Nassim Taleb, Emanuel Derman to Paul Wilmott.
