I am currently the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Circle. Circle is a consumer Internet company focused on transforming the world economy with secure, simple, and less costly technology for storing and using money. Circle is backed by $76 million from investors including Goldman Sachs, IDG China, Breyer Capital, Accel and General Catalyst. I was also the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Brightcove, an online video platform used by media organizations worldwide. I started Brightcove in 2004, and have grown the company rapidly over the past few years, including a successful IPO of the company in 2012 (NASDAQ: BCOV). Prior to Brightcove, I was a technologist and entrepreneur-in-residence at General Catalyst, a Cambridge-based venture firm focused on early stage software and consumer internet investments. Prior to General Catalyst, I was Chief Technology Officer of Macromedia, a leading Internet software platform provider. I worked on the Macromedia MX platform of products, which was anchored by our efforts to transform Flash from an animation technology into a rich platform for building software applications that transformed the experience of the Web. I joined Macromedia from Allaire when we merged the two companies in early 2001. I helped co-found Allaire and grow it from a startup to a medium sized public company. Allaire was an early pioneer in the web platform market, where we created ColdFusion, the first commercial "application server", enabling ultimately millions of developers to rapidly and easily build interactive applications for distribution through Web browsers. Prior to my involvement in the Internet industry, I was a student of international political economy. Specialties: Internet platforms, software, mobile apps, media, communications, bitcoin, crypto-currencies.
