ETHGlobal is a community effort led by the team at L4 and SV Angel. Some of the key members are Liam Horne, Kartik Talwar, Ethan Wilding, Panashe Mahachi, Jeff Coleman, and Josh Stark. ETHGlobal builds on the hard work done by Techyon, the organization that built Hack the North, Canada's Biggest Hackathon. Each year we support several hackathons in various cities.

Hackathons teach new skills, strengthen developer communities, and push the limits of new technologies. At ETHGlobal we're leveraging our team's experience running ETHWaterloo and Hack the North to foster a world-class ecosystem of Ethereum developers and entrepreneurs, collectively building the Web 3 world.

To make this happen, we offer assistance and expertise to regional hackathons across the globe, and host one major hackathon ourselves every year. Our assistance includes a toolset of APIs for event registration and management, a playbook for running an Ethereum hackathon, and our assistance securing leading speakers, judges, and sponsors in the blockchain space.

Circle is a peer-to-peer payments technology company. It was founded by Jeremy Allaire and Sean Neville in October 2013. Circle's mobile payment platform, Circle Pay, allows users to hold, send, and receive traditional fiat currencies. In September 2015, Circle received the first BitLicense issued from the New York State Department of Financial Services. In April 2016, the British government approved the first virtual currency licensure to Circle. Circle is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

Up until December 2016, Circle Pay also operated as a Bitcoin wallet service to buy and sell Bitcoins. It has since ceased to provide such service, claiming the company "is now more than ever not a consumer bitcoin exchange, and will continue to focus resources on global social payments and future next-generation blockchain technology".

In February 2020, Circle sold its digital asset trading platform to Voyager Digital.

We feel there is too much focus in the media on the technological aspects of this industry that leaves a cold taste in many people’s mouths. Readers and viewers are left feeling that blockchain and defi are complicated, scary and too hard to understand. We disagree. To combat this misperception, we want to humanize the people who are at the forefront of this new alternative so as to set them apart from the corporate, centralized power structure that leaves people feeling helpless in the face of  the technology they consume. 

DeCential will do this through a fundamental commitment to honesty, empathy, revelation and integrity. Our films, documentary series and journalism will strive to always put characters first, with all their warts and humanity on full display. We believe this will spread adoption of defi technology, cryptocurrency and the central tenant that peer-to-peer networks for the first time in human history allow a different path to be forged. There is also a spirituality that runs among many of the people creating this new alternative and we want to highlight that as a way to draw in newcomers. It’s not cynical to say that many of the people who created Ethereum did so in a passionate attempt to make the world a better place. That’s the message DeCential wants to convey.
