Garrick is best known for his research on monetary and distributed systems innovation, particularly cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. 

Garrick was ranked as one of the 100 most influential economists in the UK & Ireland. He is regularly invited to share his research and perspective with public sector institutions, including the CIA, US Army and Naval War Colleges, Federal Reserve, Bank of England, and the Financial Stability Board, as well as media, including the BBC, CNBC, FT, WSJ, and NPR. Garrick is frequently sought as a speaker.

Notable cryptocurrency and blockchain research publications include the "2017 Global Cryptocurrency Benchmarking Study" (University of Cambridge) and the "2017 Global Blockchain Benchmarking Study" (University of Cambridge). He also created and published the CoinDesk "State of Bitcoin" and "State of Blockchain" reports from 2013-2016. Garrick's other research interests include sovereign debt, financial crises, financial repression and prudential regulation, black markets, and systemic risk. He completed his PhD in economic history at the London School of Economics under the supervision of professors Albrecht Ritschl and Niall Ferguson.

Garrick's teaching includes developing the UK's first university taught class on blockchain technology at the University of Cambridge, and teaching on numerous executive education programs and other classes for Cambridge, Oxford, Columbia, Northwestern, and the London School of Economics.

Garrick has worked for 15+ years in the private sector with both start-ups like Blockchain and Mosaic and established companies such as Bank of America, The Home Depot, IDG, and Allianz. Garrick’s technology experience includes co-founding a San Francisco-based new venture incubator and IT strategy consulting for multinationals. Garrick has served on the boards of directors of both publicly traded and private companies, and he has worked or consulted in a wide range of industries, including banking, technology, online media, specialty finance, insurance, business services, retail, non-profit, education, and government.

Garrick’s volunteer work includes serving as a Big City Mountaineers guide for at-risk urban teens on backcountry excursions in the Sierra Nevada. He also was a founding member of the record-setting PolarVision expedition, which raised funds and awareness for sight-related charities.

I am an academic economist with experience in the design of blockchain consensus systems and stablecoins. From 2011 to 2013, I proposed a series of novel proof-of-stake consensus algorithms as an anonymous hobbyist. While these proposals were initially greeted with great skepticism, they have come to exercise a tremendous influence on subsequent theoretical work and in many cases have inspired developers to code their own proof-of-stake implementations. Examples of projects that implement my original proof-of-stake proposals include Peercoin (2012), Nxt (2013), Bitshares (2014), and Decred (2016).

Concurrent with my work on proof-of-stake, I also proposed systems for the issuance of the blockchain derivative products now known as stablecoins. At the time, implementation of my stablecoin proposals depended on future advances in areas such as smart contracts and proof-of-stake based consensus. I found that the market was not ready for my stablecoin concepts in 2013 much as the market had not been ready for my proof-of-stake concepts in 2011 and 2012. Due to these difficulties, I shelved my research on stablecoins, keeping much of it secret and aiming to resume work once the market had matured sufficiently to fund my endeavors. With the explosion of funding for stablecoin startups over the past year, I am eager to make a move into this area, whether by joining an existing stablecoin team or organizing a new to team and launching my own venture.

Nick Sullivan is Head of Research (and Cryptography) at Cloudflare. He is passionate about improving security and privacy online through cutting-edge research and the development of open standards.

Nick Sullivan, Chief Cryptographer at Cloudflare. Founded less than 10 years ago, the company offers content delivery services (CND), DNS, and DDoS protection to over 12 million websites. The company contributes to open source cryptography libraries, some of which are used by Etherum. They recently launched an IPFS gateway and features which allow users to have strong guarantees as to the integrity of the content.

Tal Rabin is Head of Research at Algorand. Researcher whose general area focuses on cryptography and, more specifically, on secure multiparty computation, threshold cryptography, and proactive security.

Obtained Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Hebrew University, Israel in 1994. Joined the cryptography group at IBM Research in 1996 and managed it from 1997 to 2019. Served as a member of the SIGACT Executive Board and a council member of the Computing Community Consortium. Initiated and organizes the Women in Theory Workshop, a biennial event for graduate students in Theory of Computer Science.

Member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, a fellow of the ACM and a fellow of the International Association of Cryptologic Research (IACR). 2019 recipient of the RSA Award for Excellence in the Field of Mathematics and winner of the 2014 Anita Borg Women of Vision Award for Innovation. Listed by Forbes as one of the World’s Top 50 Women in Tech for 2018.

He is a blockchain apps pioneer, an experienced developer, and a researcher in decision and game theory. Cofounder and CTO at VariabL.

Kei Kreutler, Strategy at GNOSIS, a researcher interested in how cultural narratives of technologies shape their use. She curates events at Full Node, Europe’s largest co-working space for blockchain initiatives. She is an alum of Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture, and Design, and her work has been exhibited by organisations including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, UK, and Ideas City, New Museum, New York, NY. Her artistic practice focuses on organizational design and utopian conspiracies.

Ivan Bogatyy is Engineer, researcher. Previously Partner at MetaStable Capital, GoogleAI 2014–2018 deep learning & TensorFlow.

My interests are in machine learning and natural language understanding. I work in the NYC language research team where we built state of the art syntactic parsers SyntaxNet and Parsey McParseface, as well as their successors, DRAGNN and ParseySaurus. I focus on building large-scale distributed training for modular neural network models that learn from several NLU subtasks simultaneously and accumulate common knowledge across different facets of understanding language (transfer learning). I also worked briefly on transfer learning for computer vision at Stanford. 

More recently, I have been looking into cryptography and game theory, discovering and helping fix a large-scale Ethereum smart contract vulnerability. 

Before Google, I did competitive programming (top-12 nationwide in Russia) and studied mathematics. I graduated with a joint BSc/MSc degree in mathematics from Moscow State University (thesis), where I focused on probability theory and discrete mathematics. 

Fun fact: I used to be pretty serious about online poker, turning $50 into $25000 over my freshman and sophomore years in college. The largest bluff I ever called was ~4x my monthly living budget at the time. Regrettably, my parents eventually counseled me out of this exciting career choice.
