Culturally, financially and governmentally, outside forces control our lives. Things like credit ratings and centralized banking tell us it’s true. Our work facilitates a focus shift: from an external locus of control to internal. From things happen to me, to I control what parts of culture, business and finance I participate in.

When institutions own the pieces of information that make up how we’re qualified and quantified as players in the game of society, unsavory stuff can happen. Lumped together, that info is easily breached. Controlled by corporations, it’s easily corrupted. We believe that the tallies adding up to your life belong to you. And belong somewhere outside of the current coordinated, central systems.

If anything, we’re the question-askers. Does unchallenged mean indestructible? Is too big to fail too much of a risk to intentionally implode? Probably? Maybe? Definitely. Our creed: Break it. Make it. Change something big in the process.

There’s something tremendously powerful at the intersection of experience and appetite for risk: confidence to be bold. The ability to make meaningful decisions that change minds. Even worlds. In this way, Thesis embraces neutral chaos—“let’s see what happens when we do this” action with a solid foundation of experience that helps us confidently push the big red button.

COPA, The Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance, operates on the principle that open access to patents covering foundational cryptocurrency technologies is necessary for the community to grow, freely innovate, and build new and better products.

It is a non-profit community of like-minded people and companies formed to encourage the adoption and advancement of cryptocurrency technologies and to remove patents as a barrier to growth and innovation. COPA acknowledges that cryptocurrency technology is built on the collaborative efforts of a community made up of developers, engineers, and designers. The success of cryptocurrency is a direct result of the community coming together to build and develop upon existing technologies for the benefit of all, and we believe COPA will help this happen.

Crypto organizations have filed for hundreds of patents on cryptocurrency technology and continue to do so in large numbers, causing some concerns:

1/ Locking up foundational cryptocurrency technologies in patents stifles innovation and the adoption of these technologies in new and improved applications.

2/ While patents are useful defensively and can serve as a lawsuit deterrent, misguided and offensive use of patents by bad actors threatens the growth and free availability of cryptocurrency technologies. Many crypto companies do not own patents and are unable to adequately deter or defend against these bad actors.

COPA

Prysmatic Labs is a team of blockchain engineers committed to scaling Ethereum. We are implementing a sharding client for Ethereum 2.0. Currently, blockchains do not scale. With Ethereum receiving over a million transactions per day, the network is desperate for a solution that will help sustain its massive growth and adoption. We are building out a full featured sharding client, allowing the system to process transactions at over 10x - 100x of its current speed!

The DragonMint 16T miner is the world’s most efficient Bitcoin miner, running faster and cooler than any competing miners. It’s the culmination of over 12 months research and development which has resulted in major advancements in mining technology including a brand new generation of ASIC mining chips.

Halong Mining

We use Ethereum smart contracts to build a decentralized pooled mining protocol called SmartPool. Our solution implicitly replaces the centralized pool operator by network participants who run the Ethereum network.

SmartPool includes several novel data structures and design choices which make its protocol secure and efficient. Specifically, we devise a new mechanism to verify and record miners' contributions to the pool without centralized operators. SmartPool's efficient probabilistic verification drastically reduces both the number of messages and the costs to run the pool for miners. Using a novel data structure called the augmented Merkle tree, SmartPool's batched share submission and efficient payment scheme remove any incentive for submitting invalid batches.
