Curve is an exchange liquidity pool on Ethereum (like Uniswap) designed for (1) extremely efficient stablecoin trading (2) low risk, supplemental fee income for liquidity providers, without an opportunity cost.

Curve allows users (and smart contracts like 1inch) to trade between DAI and USDC with a bespoke low slippage, low fee algorithm designed specifically for stablecoins. Behind the scenes, the liquidity pool is supplied to the Compound protocol, where it generates income for liquidity providers.

Curve is currently in alpha - the codebase will be published on Github in the next 48 hours, and an external audit will begin in the near future. Please don’t supply your life savings, or assets you can’t afford to lose, to Curve, especially as a liquidity provider.

Using Curve as an exchange user should be significantly less risky, but this is not advice.

The decision-making is playing a central role in everyone’s life. No matter how serious decisions you make, you are personally affected by many choices of other entities like governments, corporations, financial institutions, and many others. Despite the democratic nature of developed societies, all of them de-facto are governed by influencers of different types — corporations, syndicates, and people with political influence and colossal capital.

The crypto industry and, in particular, the DeFi space is considered to be even more democratic and decentralized in decision-making and value distribution. On-chain governance mechanisms are regarded as a holy grail to make our industry sustainable and resilient. Recently it became evident that Defi in 2020 de-facto develops under the slogan “everyone gets a governance token” (from now “governance token” = GT). No doubts, a lot of crypto users are involved in dozens of “governance experiments” now with varying degrees of quality. Even third-tier and almost dead scammy ICOs try to become a “Defi startup” and introduce a governance token.

The main difference of nowadays hype from the previous ones (like ICO’s bubble) is that some platforms have dozens of thousands of users and billions of dollars of cumulative locked capital. So, governance questions become especially important when we are talking about vast amounts of money. These tokens are not useless (as they were in the ICO epoch) and play a vital role in the ecosystem. The total capitalization of governance tokens can be assumed as ~3–4 bln USD, and it snowballs. It is possible to make a bold prediction about the $25 bln valuations at the end of 2020.

The main question that arises here is the real monetary value of such tokens for different groups of stakeholders. If there is a significant economic activity on the protocol, the possibility of governing is valuable.

StableCredit is an upcoming product in research & development that combines three pillars of existing DeFi infrastructure: Minting synthetic debt (DAI, Synthetix); Decentralized lending platform (Compound, AAVE); Automated Market Maker (AMM) functionality (Uniswap, Sushiswap).

StableCredit will enable users to deposit assets as collateral and obtain a line of credit (denominated in StableCredit USD) based on the dollar value of the assets at deposit. For example, a user can deposit 100 LINK and will obtain $1,100 worth of StableCredit USD (at the time of writing LINK is ~$11). StableCredit USD can then be traded for other assets available in the protocol.

Exchange rates between StableCredit USD and assets in the protocol are determined by price feeds from oracles (Chainlink), and current utilization ratios of assets within the platform. For example, if liquidity providers have lent 100 DAI to the pool and 90 DAI is borrowed, the utilization ratio is 90%. Similar to how bonding curves work, there will then be a significant premium for any additional DAI borrowing (the cost to borrow DAI will be > $1). Users will be able to borrow up to 75% of the value of their collateral (i.e., utilization ratio of 75%).

The AMM will also support single-sided liquidity exposure for liquidity providers (LPs). Current popular AMM models, such as Uniswap and Sushiswap, require LPs to deposit both assets in a liquidity pool. For example, in a ETH-USDC liquidity pool, the liquidity provider would be required to deposit ETH and USDC in a 50/50 ratio. This increases the barrier to entry for liquidity providers and also the capital requirements. Single-sided liquidity provisioning will enable LPs to deposit only one of the assets in the liquidity pool (i.e., either ETH or USDC). As a result, the barriers of entry to be a LP will be greatly reduced, and should contribute to an overall increase in capital efficiency.

The Yield Protocol is a standard for a token that settles based on the value of a target asset on a specified future date, and which is backed by some quantity of a collateral asset. We call these tokens “yTokens.”

You can create yTokens by depositing collateral, then sell them to effectively borrow (and short) the target asset. Buying yTokens is economically similar to lending the target asset. The effective “interest rate” received by yToken holders is determined by the discount at which yTokens currently trade, as well as the time to maturity.

yTokens can also be used as a building block for more sophisticated products. While each maturity of yTokens has a fixed expiration date, you could build a perpetual product on top of it, by implementing a pool that invests in short-term yTokens and automatically rolls them over upon expiry.
